Yaroslavl is a modern, medium sized city with a rich historical and cultural heritage. Founded in 1010 it has beautiful 17th century churches, museums, art galleries and other interesting sites. Situated on the Volga River and the capitol of the Yaroslavl region, it's in easy reach of other cities in Russia's "Golden Ring".
With a well-developed infrastructure Yaroslavl has a population of 680,000 people with ample public transportation services, restaurants, stores, sports stadium and nightclubs. Most banks accept major credit cards and travelers checks. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at the many exchange houses around the city.
Yaroslavl is considered a safe city and has almost no record of the organized crime often associated with some of Russia's larger cities. With a low crime rate it is considered safer than many cities in the west.
